Ćiro biking route

Nature in all its pristine glory

The former narrow railway, built in 1901, had been traversed by the steam locomotive Ćiro. This railway interconnected many places in Herzegovina, and it streched from Mostar to Dubrovnik, or to be more precise from Zelenika to Bileća. Nowadays it is used as a cycling route. The route stretches from Čapljina to Konavle, with the longest and most interesting section passing right through this Municipality, where various attractive sustaining walls made out of stone, tunnels, bridges, guard houses and train stations turned into luxurious catering facilities can be seen and visited.

You may find it interesting that an Austrian composer, Johann Strauss III., had composed a polka specifically for the building of this railroad, which was a variant of the song Polka-schnell.
